Virtual Reality is often called as "empathy machine" because it offers an immersive, embodied experience which promotes opportunities for perspective-taking. In this research project, we seek to uncover ways to design an interactive Virtual Reality game to assess and develop empathy and social-emotional learning in children inspired by the Kids Empathy Development Scale(KEDS)

Study 1: Conduct role-play activities and focus groups with children

Children play games of emotional charades and fill the survey inspired by the Kids Empathy Development Scale. 

Stage 1: Pilot Study to validate the study protocol and make refinement before the data collection

Key Contributions

  • Led the project by managing a team of 5 graduate students, coordinating tasks, and ensuring study milestones and deadlines were met on time​

  • Created user survey and consent form using Qualtrics.

  • Designed the study protocol and observation plan for the data collection of the study

  • Led 5+ Pilot studies and facilitated the data collection of the study with middle-school Children
